Barn
Heritage Barn Heritage was the term used to distinguish the
recent history of Coggeshall Grange Barn from the historical research into
its relationship with Coggeshall Abbey. It was closely linked with
the Oral History thread of the project. Friends members Sid MacKay and Stan Haines began the
task by producing a time-line of events in the Barn's history, from the
grant of the land for Coggeshall Abbey by King Stephen and Queen Matilda
in 1140 to the transfer of the Barn to the safekeeping of the National
Trust in 1989. Sid and Stan then commissioned a facsimile reprint of
George Frederick Beaumont's celebrated A History of Coggeshall, in
Essex, originally published in 1890. Copies may be obtained from
booksellers (ISBN-10: 0953916502, ISBN-13:
978-0953916504), from Amazon
or direct from Sid
MacKay for £14.50 plus postage and packing. For further
